More information about NINSS.
NINSS promotes Nordic and international co-operation on research, education and increasing
awareness of safety and security through the sharing of ideas and experience aimed at
developing new methods of co-operation and exchange.
NINSS seeks to bridge the gaps in information and exchange to achieve better collaboration
and communication. We will use the vast level of knowledge and expertise that exists in our
network to create a security-minded culture both within the Nordic region and internationally.
NINSS strives to minimize the impact cultural differences have on the way nations perceive
and react to threats and risks by sharing experiences and therefore creating a common understanding
of how we can work together in response to catastrophic events that affect multiple nations.
NINSS bring groups together in interdisciplinary forums with key persons representing community (fire, rescue, law enforcement,
emergency medicine), government officials, military, researchers, legislators, politicians, end-users. A paper is then produced
on the outcomes of that forum.
“A Safe and Secure Society” is an example of research projects that will bring together experts from Europe and
internationally to examine the possibility of launching a major European project on various approaches to safety and security,
both in the traditional sense, against external threats, as it relates to the comfort and quality of life, and on the
relationship between safety and security.
This project will take into account the technological development as it relates to the vulnerability of modern society,
and the present and future trends of risk. (Reference: Mr Stefan Cairén, Vice President of COST, European
Cooperation in the Field of Scientific and Technical Research)”
Through similar projects under the theme of “Making Communities Safer.” NINSS will arrange
twice-yearly conferences and symposiums in Europe and the US, thus enlarging the international
network dedicated to a safe society. NINSS will continue to advance the international dialogue
on the importance of cooperative across borders on safety and security, and will serve as a resource
for information gathering and sharing to the Nordic and International community.
What makes us different?
The forums are kept small to ensure a thorough and creative discussion and to tackle some of the most complex issues,
which will inspire to new thinking and lead to new solutions. Before ending the forum we decide on next steps and
follow-up to ensure the continuity of a process that has been started.
